Murray Gold

Murray Gold serves as counsel to Koskie Minsky LLP’s pension and benefits practice. He works extensively with multi-employer and jointly sponsored pension and benefits plans in the public and broader public sectors. Gold has worked with the Ontario Teachers’ Federation as a sponsor of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan since its inception in 1990 and has been counsel on a number of conversions of public sector plans to jointly sponsored arrangements. He worked
with stakeholders to create the tax and governance framework for the first Employee Life and Health Trust as well as the Auto Sector Retiree Health Care Trust. Gold has also been actively engaged in pension reform studies and initiatives. In 2008, he was one of four expert advisors to the Ontario Expert Commission on Pensions. In 2015, he was appointed as one of three initial members of the board of directors of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan Administration Corporation. Gold also served as the only lawyer on Ontario’s Pension Asset Advisory Panel. He is currently engaged with institutional investor fiduciary obligations as a climate expert with the Canada Climate Law Initiative (CCLI). Gold is a fellow of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and is also a member of FSRA’s Public Sector Plans Advisory Committee. He graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. degree and from the University of Toronto Law School. Gold is also the recipient of the 2021 OBA Pension Award for Excellence in Pension and Benefits Law.
