Jani Rachelson

Jani K. Rachelson is the senior partner in the employee benefits practice group at Cohen, Weiss and Simon LLP. Rachelson also currently serves as the sole independent trustee of two small pension plans. She primarily represents multiemployer pension and welfare plans. Rachelson advises clients with respect to withdrawal liability; COBRA; HIPAA (privacy and security requirements); fiduciary requirements; plan design and drafting, plan and benefit administration; and PPA, MPRA and ARPA compliance. Rachelson previously served as the union co-chair of the senior board of editors for the American Bar Association/BNA Employee Benefits Law, Cumulative Supplements. She was also a senior editor, with principal editorial responsibility for the chapter titled "Issues Unique to Jointly Administered Plans," and a contributing author to the third edition of the treatise. Rachelson previously served as the union co-chair of the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section Committee on Employee Benefits. She has been named “New York Super Lawyer,” one of the top 5% of lawyers in the New York metro area as designated by Thomson Reuters. Rachelson was inducted as a charter fellow of The American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, Inc., and served on the board of governors. She is a frequent lecturer for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and at other law conferences. She has litigated several benefit claims and fiduciary lawsuits as well as TaftHartley deadlock arbitrations. Rachelson is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School.
